This 6 Days Photographic Safari will take you to the specatcular mountain Forested slopes of Virunga range where you will enjoy a magical gorilla tracking experience within Parc Nationaldes Volcans, visit the Genocide Memorial Centers, viist Dian Fossey’s grave, track golden monkey, Visit the Roz Carr Imbabazi orphanage, local schools, the community projects, enjoy guided village walks and a memorable cultural experience with the pygmy Batwa people as you capture every moment on your camera!
Day 1: Arrival in Kigali
You will be welcomed by an expert guide from African Nature Trekkers on arrival in Kigali. Who will provide information and assistance throughout your trip. The terraced hills that characterize much of Rwanda’s landscape are what your safari takes you through. Through the progressive ascent to the base of the spectacular volcanoes of the Virunga range, five adjacent peaks emerge high above the luxuriant country side as you arrive at the magnificent Volcanoes Virunga Lodge.
Day 2: Gorilla tracking in Parc National des Volcans
The light mountain Forest on the slopes of Virunga range provide a magical gorilla tracking experience in Parc Nationaldes Volcans. Having tracked the gorillas, you can spend an hour with them before returning back to the base for a late lunch. Tracking can take a full day for some mysterious Gorilla families more so if it is wet and muddy.
Day 3: Enjoy our additional Adventure Activities
Alongside other options, you can decide to go gorilla tracking again (additional consent required subject to availability). Dian Fossey’s grave and the gorilla cemetery which is the final resting place of Digit her favorite Gorilla or tracking the endangered golden monkey are among the wide variety to explorer here. Visiting some of the hundreds of the children, the Roz Carr Imbabazi orphanage, local schools and community projects funded by the Volcanoes Safari Partnership Trust make other popular excursions. Either experience village life by taking a guided walk to Lake Bulela or relax on some of the finest inlad beaches on Lake Kivu.
Day 4: Enjoy our additional Adventure Activities
With exception of gorilla tracking and visiting Dian Fossey’s grave, you can do one of the activities of day 3 to enjoy a more tranquil morning. Set off for the mount Gahinga Lodge located at the base of Virunga Volcanoes near the entrance to the national park. With stunning views of the volcanoes, enjoy your pre-dinner drinks on the terrace. if possible visit the various genocide memorial centers. You can also warm yourself inside the by the roaring fire.
Day 5: The Batwa Cultural Experience
Walk the Batwa trail experiencing life of the Batwa pygmies together with their elder. This gives you a golden opportunity to learn the cultural heritage of the unique indigenous forest people. Besides their knowledge of medicinal plants, the Batwa will demonstrate their traditional hunting skill while you trail through the forest. While you visit the sacred Ngarama caves, you will enjoy the music and dance of the rich culture which is at the verge of extinction. Track gorillas in Nkuringo. Located in the southern sector of Bwindi national park, Nkuringo is a potential gorilla tracking site. However, tracking here is challenging due to the steep and muddy paths.
Trek the Muhavur or Gahinga Volcanoes. The lower slopes and marshy craters at the peak of Gahinga provide a gentler hike through the bamboo forest. The lower slopes have a variety of forest bird while the marshes close to the peak are habitat to the bushbuck and indefinable duiker. Muhavura is actually the easier said than done of all peaks with in the park. The hike which takes most of the day will greatly be commended with a great feeling of accomplishment coupled with magnificent scenery on a pleasant day.
Take a professionally guided walk through the park to trace the golden monkeys. The trail takes you from the numerous bamboo stands and a forested gorge on the lower levels up, to the raised moorland and heath. The forest is home to the rare golden monkey together with a wide variety of bird Life and animals.
Day 6: Departure from Kigali
Although your Safari ends with a journey to Kigali, there might be time to explore the city and visit the genocide memorial; a moving testimony to this country’s past that it has courageously overcome, before transferring to the airport. Return to the airport in time your return flight or transfer to the hotel.
